About Team NorCal Lacrosse

About Team NorCal

Team NorCal is the oldest, largest and most successful boys and girls elite and travel lacrosse program in the San Francisco Bay Area.  Over the past 10 years we have grown from a single U13 team, to this past year sponsoring 16 teams across  Youth, Middle School, and High School Boys and Girls Divisions.

Team NorCal selects teams based on competitive tryouts each year. We have a philosophy that is unique in youth sports. Unlike the majority of travel teams in many youth sports, we do not allow parents to coach any of our teams.  This eliminates the reality and perception of bias and unfairness in team selection and playing time decisions.

Our coaches are among the most accomplished high school, club, and youth coaches in California.  They each have a record of success in the sport, and desire to share their love of the game with the next generation of players.

Team NorCal plays in tournaments year round (except the Spring when the regular high school and youth season takes place).  Our goal is to compete successfully in many of the most competitive regional and national youth and high school lacrosse tournaments.

Our objective is to allow each player to develop his skills and achieve his full potential in the sport.  By joining with the best players in Northern California, players can challenge themselves to refine their skills and knowledge of the game, make new friends that they will compete against in high school, and even college.  We accept players from throughout the Bay Area, from Monterey to Sacramento, and from San Franciso to Sonoma.

Our program continues to acheive a great deal of sucess in a short time.  We have won 15 tournament titles in the last year alone, spread across youth, middle school and high school divisions.  Our 2017 team was the first West Coast team to ever win the prestigious Summer Sizzle Tournament held in Baltimore, Maryland.  Our teams have also won titles at the Vail Warrior Shootout, the Pacific Lacrosse Festival, the Palm Desert Lacrosse Classic,  the US Lacrosse West and Central Region Championships, the Pacific Surf Tournament, the 510 Challenge, and the Tahoe U19 Boys tournament.

We have a few fundamental beliefs that anchor our program:

1) We are committed to each one of our players:  We make sure our players each have the opportunity to gain from the program.  Our program is not about a few 'star' players (who often happen to the sons of the coaches of the program).  Our goal (and the results if you ask our players from the last five seasons) is for the entire team to develop both as individuals and as players.

2) Financial resources should not be a barrier to participation:  Last year alone we provided more than $25,000 in scholarships to deserving players and families.

3) Organization and communucation are key to program success:  Our program is extremely well run.  Communications are frequent and clear, tournaments are a blast (ask about the Team Hospitality Tent!), and things just work here.  You are not left on your own at a tournament to figure out where to be, and what to do.  The Team NorCal family has a great time at every tournament - we have fun social events and stay in nice hotels (where we have negotiated very attractive rates).  It is our objective to make sure that these tournaments qualify as great family vacations as well as top rate lacrosse experiences.

4) Our program is based on over a dozen experienced and successful high school and college coaches.  We are not a program designed around one or two 'stars' with big names fresh out of college who spread themselves too thinly across many teams (often having little time given their commitments for promotion to vendors and manufacturers), and who have no track record of coaching, and who bring in young, unproven kids barely out of college to do most of the coaching.   We have a very deep bench of first rate coaches who understand the high school and college game from years of real experience.

We want to give our players the chance to achieve their potential.  As Youth players, that means maximizing their chance to make the high school team. In High School, it means exposing players to national competition and helping them get recruited to play lacrosse in college.  Half of the players named by US Lacrosse in 2013 through 2021  in Northern California as HS All American or Academic All American play for Team NorCal and or began their travel career with us.  Our first class from 10 years ago is now graduating from college, and have played at great schools including West Point, Northwestern, Tufts, University of Denver, Colgate, Kenyon, Haverford, Michigan, and more.......

We practice on the best lacrosse field in the state of California at Palo Alto High School.

We have done this for many years, and the success of our program speaks for itself.   We are the only travel team in Northern California with this broad a selection of teams and tournaments . Players who join Team NorCal in the younger divisions can continue through their High School years and play with the best in the area year round.
