Girls Win Bonanza 14U Division in Convincing Fashion

Congratulations to our Girls 2023/2024 team: Champions of Bonanza, 14U!

Not only did they go undefeated, their goal differential was the strongest in the entire 14-team division, anchored by only 9 goals allowed!

Tournament MVP honors go to the fabulous goalie Lauren Hall who was a brick wall in cage; with an incredible save percentage, she was the absolute rock of the defense.

Team play was fantastic: 40% of the goals were assisted, with 15 players tallying either a goal or an assist.  High score honors go to attacker Lane Imen, with 6 goals and 2 assists, followed by Taylor Santos and Amelia Poirier, each with 6 goals and 1 assist.  Next highest scorers were Lilly Cobos (4G, 1A) and Sofia Niklaus (4G).  Best Assist honors go to Shannon Wong with 4 assists to complement a goal of her own.

Defensive MVP honors go to Sofia Storlazzi and Lillian Casazza.  Together with Alyssa Chai and the rest of their teammates and the anchor of the defense, goalie Lauren Hall, Storlazzi and Casazza shut down the opponents time and time again.  In addition to their many caused turnovers and repeated defensive stops, Storlazzi and Casazza also showcased their offensive skills by racking up 3 goals each.

Time of possession was another key to this team’s domination; in addition to the many defensive turnovers, controlling the Draw was imperative.  Center Sofia Niklaus proved her skill and strength by controlling the Draw, often sending it directly into the stick of fellow midfielder Shannon Wong.  Other draws were successfully received by Taylor Santos, Siena Wong, and Lilly Cobos who consistently fought off opponents with their stick skills and grit.

Most impressive of the weekend was the fire and intensity exhibited by this young team.  Their passion to play hard and win as a team is commendable.  Team dynamics, sportsmanship, and support of one another are the cornerstones of Team NorCal Girls Lacrosse.  Congratulations, girls 2023/2024.
